“WOW: Sustainable Transportation” Blends History, Humor, and Innovation to Inspire Greener Futures
Austin, TX – April 22, 2025 — In celebration of Earth Day, E4 Youth, Austin Energy, and interactive firm Froliq invite the public to downtown Austin’s Electric Drive for the unveiling of a groundbreaking augmented reality (AR) experience: “WOW: Sustainable Transportation.” This youth-led, tech-forward initiative features T-Rex and Lady Bird, two original 3D characters designed by E4 Youth’s Digital Docents, and will be activated via permanent interactive signage installed near the iconic Seaholm Power Plant.
With the motto “Know Your Past, Create a Better Future,” the project blends storytelling, sustainability, and emerging technology to spark community conversations about transportation, energy, and climate responsibility.
“Electric Drive and Seaholm represent both Austin’s industrial past and its clean energy future,” said Carl Settles, Founder/CEO of E4 Youth. “It’s the perfect place to show what happens when young creatives lead the way in using technology for environmental impact.”
Visitors will be among the first to scan QR codes at two newly installed signs and launch the AR experience, where T-Rex—a playful, climate-conscious dinosaur—and Lady Bird guide users through the past, present, and future of sustainable transportation in Austin.
The launch also offers a first look at the What Once Was (WOW) Heritage Center, opening in late 2025, where the project’s themes of cultural heritage, digital storytelling, and civic engagement will take center stage.
